John William Zurmuehlen, 54, of Burlington, died at 8 p.m. Monday, June 25, 2001, at his home.

Born December 28, 1946, in Burlington, he was the son of Robert H. and Merle I. Rhoer Zurmuehlen.

Mr. Zurmuehlen was a graduate of Mediapolis High School and Cleveland Institute of Technology and a Vietnam War Army veteran. He worked in production for General Electric.

He was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church. He was a ham and CB radio operator and loved photography and his cats.

Survivors include his mother of rural Burlington; seven brothers, Robert, Paul and Timothy Zurmuehlen, all of Burlington, David Zurmuehlen of West Burlington, James Zurmuehlen of Gravity, William Zurmuehlen of Carman, Illinois, and Rob Zurmuehlen of Ames; and four sisters, Kathleen Bray of West Burlington, Mary Walker of Danville and Julie Maupin and Susan Dixon, both of Burlington.

He was preceded in death by his father.

Visitation will begin at 8 a.m. Friday in Lunning Chapel, where the family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m.

The memorial funeral service for Mr. Zurmuehlen will be at 7 p.m. Friday in Lunning Chapel, with the Reverend John Gaulke officiating.
