Dorothy E. "Dee" Smith, 76, of Burlington, died at 10:45 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 14, 1999, at University Hospitals in Iowa City.
Born Sept. 1, 1923, in Burlington, she was the daughter of George and Anna Matson Bauer. She married Henry Harlan Smith Jr. on July 29, 1940, in Kahoka, Mo. He died March 16, 1983.
Mrs. Smith worked for Sylvania, as a production worker at General Electric, and at Burlington Glass for eight to nine years.
She was a member of Oak Street Baptist Church, where she served as a trustee and on the decorating committee and organized outings for the chapel class. She was a member of the professional business women's organization and was a volunteer at the welcome center. She also volunteered at Southeastern Community College, teaching adults to read and write.
Survivors include two sons, Henry H. Smith III of Colona, Ill., and Jerry L. Smith of Knoxville, Ill.; three grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and two step-grandchildren.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and four brothers.
Visitation will be from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday in Prugh's Chapel.
The funeral for Mrs. Smith will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Oak Street Baptist Church, with the Rev. Ron Presley officiating. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery.
