Samuel Berry Dies at Home of His Sister
Samuel Green Berry, aged 76 years died at the home of his sister, Mrs. America Granamman, 1211 South Fourteenth street, Wednesday morning after an illness of two years.
Mr. Berry was born in Des Momines county December 4, 1847. By trade he was a contractor and carpenter. White at work on the World's Fair buildings in St. Louis he was the victum of an accident which necessitated the amputation of one leg. Since that time he lived in the soldiers home in Quincy, Ill., and but recently came here to visit his sister.
He was a member of the 8th Iowa infantry. He ran away from home to join the colors when he was under age in the third year of the war and served with distinction until its end.
He was a member of the Baptist church, and the Odd Fellows lodge, and G. A. R. post of Mediapolis.
Mr. Berry is survived by one daughter, Mrs. William W. Murphy of Chicago, three sisters, Mrs. Granaman, and Mrs. M. E. Young, of Burllngton, Mrs. Elizabeth Gulick of Sperry, and one brother, Addison L. Berry of Sperry. The funeral arrangements will be made upon the arrival of his daughter from Chicago. Friends wishing to see the body may do so by calling at the Burnett-Wallen undertaking parlors today, after nine o'clock.
