Carl S. Atherton, 93, of 205 Shields, died Thursday, February 5 , at Burlington Medical Center.

He was born November 8, 1887, at Hazen, Arkansas, to Sarah Swise and Charles Atherton. He married Ruth Van Nice on October 22, 1913, near Mediapolis; she died in June 1952. He married Thyrza Evans November 9, 1957.

He was a retired farmer from the Sperry vicinity and a member of West Hill United Methodist Church.

Surviving: His wife; two sons, Stanley and Elwin, both of Burlington; three daughters, Louise Stewart, Burlington, Myrtle Hoeg, Wapello, and Pauline Dotson, Phoenix, Arizona; stepdaughter, Wanda Bellman, Bethesda, Maryland; 11 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Betty Bergs, Burlington, and Treva Gibson, Addison, Illinois.

Funeral: 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Fry chapel, Pastor Vernon Anderson. Kossuth cemetery. A memorial has been established.
