The Burlington Hawk-Eye Gazette, page 6?, June 14, 1952; Burlington, Des Moines County, Iowa:

Mrs. Ruth Atherton, 60, a long-time resident of the Mediapolis-Sperry vicinity, died in Burlington hospital June 13, at 8:15 p.m.

The former Ruth Vannice, Mrs. Atherton was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Vannice, and was born on April 14, 1892. On October 22, 1913, she was married to Carl Atherton, who survives, as do 2 sons and 3 daughters: Stanley E. Atheron and Mrs. Ella Stewart, both of Burlington; Mrs. Pauline Ruth Dotson, Wapello, and Elwin Charles and Myrtle Atherton, both at home.

Also surviving are 2 brothers and 2 sisters: Howard and William Vannice, both of the Mediapolis-Morning Sun vicinity; Mrs. Lucille Hutchcroft, Mediapolis, and Mrs. Retta Bailey, of Saskatchewan, Canada. There are 5 grandchildren.

Last rites will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at the Mediapolis Methodist church, of which Mrs. Atherton was a amember. Burial will be in the Kossuth cemetry.

The body is at the Fry chapel, in Mediapolis.
