Charles Matthew Parmeter, 82, of Bloomington, Illinois, died at 9:40 a.m. Saturday, November 3, 2007, at the McLean County Nursing Home in Normal, Illinois.

Born April 21, 1925 in Burlington, Iowa, he was the son of John Peter and Ora May Ellis Parmeter. On June 23, 1946, he married Mary Anna Barns in Burlington. She died August 26, 1964. On October 6, 1991, he married Willa J. Smith in Lake Tahoe, California.

Mr. Parmeter worked at Urbana Electric Supply Co. four years, Republic Electric 18 years, J.I. Case two years, and Crescent Electric and Supply nine years. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was a member of the Wesley United Methodist Church in Bloomington. He enjoyed woodworking, electrical projects, fishing and photography.

Survivors include his wife of Normal; two daughters, Sue (Don) Moorhead of Davenport, Iowa and Lora (Steve) Moniz of Antioch, California; one sister, Katheryn Dean of Davenport, Iowa; three brothers, John Parmeter of Keokuk, Iowa, George Parmeter of Sacramento, California and Edward Parmeter of Milan, Illinois; two grandsons, Brian and Scott Moorhead; one great-grandson, Lucas Moorhead; nieces and nephews; and great-nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Mary Anna Parmeter; one daughter, Debra Varnadoe; one brother, Joseph R. Parmeter; and two sisters, Marion and Martha.

The funeral service for Mr. Parmeter will be at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, November 8, 2007, at Prugh's Chapel in Burlington. The family will receive friends in Prugh's Chapel on Thursday from 11:30 a.m. until the time of the service. Burial with military rites conducted by the Burlington Area Veteran's Honor Guard will be in Shiloh Cemetery, in the Iowa Ordinance Plant, in Middletown.

A memorial has been established for Wesley United Methodist Church in Bloomington, Illinois.
