JACK CLAYTON PING, age 78, passed away Wednesday, February 3, 1999 at his residence in Crosby, Tx. Jack was born May 2, 1920 in Mediapolis, Iowa to Elija Roy Ping and Nell Supplee Ping. Jack grew up in Winfield, Iowa and graduated from the University of Iowa where he was a member of the All American Baseball Team. He immediately entered the U.S. Army and took his basic training at Fort Sheridan in Wyoming where he was selected to officer's training school at Fort Lee graduating 2nd in his class and where he was a member of the All Army baseball team. Jack, served during W.W.II in the third wave at Normandy where he won a Silver Star and ended up as Company Commander. He was also awarded 2 Bronze Stars, one at Metz and one for going over the Rahnagon Bridge. Later his troops liberated Dachau. When he returned home he worked for Ralston-Purina, where he was their top salesman for 19 years, he then worked for Harvestor where he was their top salesman. He moved to Crosby, Texas where he was in the real estate business until his retirement. Jack was a scratch golfer for 10 years. He was a lifetime Presbyterian as were his ancestors for seven generations. He was also a deacon in the church. Loving family members include his wife, Barbara Christley, children, Harriett and Ed Ping, Patricia and Jim Drexler, Barbara and Scott Ping and Roxanne Ping; stepchildren, Kitty Christley and George dela Berrera; grandchildren, Brian Buscemi and Kelly Ping.
