Ferrell Manning Baker

Ferrell Fern Baker, 94, of Parkview Care Center in Wayland died Saturday, July 21, 2012, at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City following a brief illness.

Born Aug. 24, 1917, in Coppock, she was the daughter of Frank and Martha Turner Manning. She married Clifford M. Baker in Burlington.

Mrs. Baker was a member of Coppock Church. She enjoyed going to garage sales, crocheting, taking care of her grandchildren and baking, especially bread and cinnamon rolls.

Survivors include three sons, Dwight Manning and Edward Baker, both of Wayland, and Kenny Baker of Brighton; eight daughters, Shirley Butler of Donna, Texas, Karen Pickering and Bess Arduser, both of Wayland, Ferrell Ulin of Kalona, Esther Johnson of New London, Sandy Capps of Farmington, Marilyn Smothers of Riverside and Connie Berg of Coralville; 35 grandchildren; 76 great-grandchildren; and 19 great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, one daughter, her parents, nine sisters and six brothers.

Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at Beatty Funeral Home in Washington, Iowa.

The funeral for Mrs. Baker will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Beatty Funeral Home, with the Rev. Joe Brown officiating. Burial will be in Cottonwood Cemetery in rural Wayland.

A memorial has been established for Cottonwood Church.
