Bo Morrison Jr.

R. F. "Bo" Morrison Jr., 81, of Columbus Junction died Sunday, July 22, 2012, at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City.

Born April 17, 1931, in Fredonia, he was the son of R. F. "Ted" Sr. and Naomi Jane Lee Morrison. On Dec. 28, 1962, he married Kathryn Bright in Columbus Junction.

Mr. Morrison worked as a mechanic, carpenter, painter and bartender, and retired from United States Postal Service as a rural mail carrier after 35 years. He was a longtime member of Columbus Junction Fire Department and served as fire chief.

He attended Columbus Junction United Methodist Church. He was a 50-year member of both Allen Wright Hanft American Legion Post 100 and Masonic Lodge 107.

He enjoyed cooking, hunting, fishing, boating, bird watching, collecting arrowheads and time with family. At the time he married his wife, she was a widow with four young children who he adopted in 2000.

Survivors include one daughter, Terry Higgins of Fulton, Mo.; three sons, James "Ed" Bright of Columbus Junction, Robert Bright of Fredonia and R.F. "Skip" Morrison III of Plymouth, Minn.; 11 grandchildren; 30 great- grandchildren; nine great-great-grandchildren; one brother, James Morrison of Columbus Junction; nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, one daughter, one grandchild, one great-grandchild, his parents, one sister and one brother.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Stacy-Lewis Home for Funeral and Cremation Services in Columbus Junction, where a Masonic service will follow visitation.

The funeral for Mr. Morrison will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Stacy-Lewis Home for Funeral and Cremation Services, with the Rev. Al Coffin officiating. Burial with military rites will be in Columbus City Cemetery. A time of food and fellowship will be at Allen Wright Hanft American Legion Post 100 following burial.

A memorial has been established.
