Colleen Wallace

Colleen Kay Wallace, 60, of Davenport, formerly of Burlington, died Friday, July 20, 2012, at Select Specialty Hospital following an extended illness.

Born Oct. 1, 1951, in Burlington, she was the daughter of Milton Francis and Kathryn Arlene Walker Youngman. On Dec. 19, 1969, she married Roger Wallace in Burlington.

Mrs. Wallace was a homemaker, worked part-time with the Davenport Community School District and worked as a para-educator for 29 years at Buchanan Elementary School. She received the HUG Award for exceptional service and dedication to Buchanan students. She retired in September 2010.

She graduated from Mediapolis High School in 1966* and attended Burlington Junior College for two years.

She was crowned Miss Burlington Bee of 1969 and awarded college scholarship funds.

She was known as a kind and caring person who left an impression with everyone she met. She enjoyed children and helping them learn and grow, time with family and friends, especially her Thirsty Thursday group from Buchanan and boating on the Mississippi River with family.

Survivors include her husband; one son, Brian Wallace of Rock Island, Ill.; one daughter, Christina Wallace; two grandchildren; two step grandchildren; three nieces; and four nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother.

Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. today at Runge Mortuary & Crematory in Davenport.

The funeral for Mrs. Wallace will be at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at Runge Mortuary and Crematory. Private family burial will be at a later date.

A memorial has been established for Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation.
