Delbert P. Alber, 77, of 531 Vernon St., Westland Manor Apartments, West Burlington, formerly of RR #2, Burlington, died Monday, July 6, 1992, at the Veteran's Administration Hospital in Des Moines.

Born Dec. 10, 1914, in New London, he was the son of James H. & Bessie Alber. He married Beatrice French Nov. 15, 1945, in Wapello.

He was a graduate of Burlington High School and of the Protestant faith. He was a medic in the Army during World War 11, doing first aid work on the front lines under enemy fire, and had received three bronze stars and the valor of Purple Heart award. He also received the LaCroix DeGuerre 1940 AVEC PAIME medal from the Belgian government for gallantry in action, beyond the call of duty for saving lives from a bomb.

Mr. Alber worked for Burlington Northern Railroads, retiring in 1980 with 30 years of service. He had been a refueling oiler and fireman for Amtrak at the Burlington riverfront.

Survivors include his wife, two sons, Michael Alber of North Liberty, and James Alber of RR #1, Wayland; one daughter, Joyce Hollingsworth; nine grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother.

Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.
