Ervin J. Panther, 87, formerly of Dodgeville, died.

Born March 12, 1913, in Kingston, he was the son of Leonard and Bertha Vorweck Panther. On November 28, 1934, he married Mildred C. Siefken in Dodgeville. She died November 3, 1991.

Mr. Panther was in the transportation industry for 50 years. He worked for H. B. Green Trucking Company of Burlington and retired as co-chairman of Service Transportation Lines Incorporated of Rock Island, Illinois.

He was a member of St. Pius X Catholic Church in Rock Island, Knights of Columbus, Allouez Council No. 658, Hayward Country Club and American Association of Retired Persons Chapter No. 914, both of Hayward, Wisconsin. He enjoyed spending his summers in Hayward.

Survivors include one daughter, Barbara Stolley of Coal Valley, Illinois; two sons, Roger Panther of Nashville, Tennessee, and Clifford Panther of Rock Island; nine grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Charlotte Grabbe of Inverness, Florida, and Ruth Etzell of Jessup.

Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by four brothers.

Visitation will be from 2 to 4:30 p.m. Sunday at Wheelan Funeral Home in Rock Island, where a rosary will be recited at 4:30 p.m.

The funeral for Mr. Panther will be at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Pius X Catholic Church in Rock Island.
