James J. Engberg 1933 - 2010

James J. Engberg, 77, of Burlington, died at 9:00 a.m. Wednesday, May 19, 2010, at Great River Hospice House in West Burlington.
Born March 13, 1933 in Burlington, he was the son of Algot and Marie Koch Engberg. On August 25, 1957 he married Sharon Patrick in Burlington.
Mr. Engberg was an Army veteran as part of NATO Forces, stationed in France in 1952 as a corporal.
In 1963 he became owner of Burlington Insurance Services and an independent insurance agent.
Mr. Engberg was a member of SS John & Paul Catholic Church. He was active in the local community throughout his life as a member of the Chamber of Commerce, Knights of Columbus, Des Moines County Resurrection Choir, Elks, Moose, Burlington Noon Lions and Eagles. He and Sharon enjoyed performing in the Burlington Follies for several years, as well as taking part in many charities and community projects. At various time he was a scoutmaster, pallbearer, church usher, occasional golfer, bowler and avid card players. He exercised a deep and steadfast faith with a lifelong active role in the Catholic Church.
Survivors include his wife, Sharon Engberg of Burlington; three sons, Michael Engberg of Denver, Colorado, Stephen (Connie) Engberg of Mt. Pleasant, and Thomas Engberg of Burlington; one daughter, Joleen (Marc) Johnson of Gaithersburg, Maryland; five grandchildren, Cameron and Afton Engberg and Matt, Alyssa and Emily Johnson and his brother, Art Engberg. He will live on in the memory of family and many friends.
Visitation will be from noon until 8:00 p.m. Friday, May 21st, in Lunning Chapel where the family will receive friends following the Rosary Recitation at 6:00 until 8:00 p.m.
The Mass of Christian Burial for Mr. Engberg will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, May 22nd, in SS John and Paul Catholic Church. The Rev. Patrick Hilgendorf will be the celebrant. The Des Moines Resurrection Choir will provide music. Interment will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery. The Burlington Area Veterans Honor Guard will conduct Military Rites.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established for Great River Hospice.
