Patrick S. Boyle, 96, of Burlington, died at 1:15 PM Sunday, February 24, 2008, at his home in Burlington.

Born Wednesday, March 15, 1911, in Burlington, he was the son of Francis Phillip and Mary Margaret Boyle. On September 30, 1937, he married Dorothy Juliann Schmieg in Burlington. She died Tuesday, October 23, 2001.

He was a 1929 graduate of Burlington High School. Following graduation, he worked at C&E in the office and then as a traveling salesman. He founded Flynn & Boyle's Furniture Store on April 25, 1941, which later grew as Flynn & Boyle's Furniture City. Mr. Boyle was a member of SS. Mary and Patrick Catholic Church, West Burlington, the Knights of Columbus #568, 4th degree member of the Mackin Assembly #261, the Elks Lodge, and the Eagles. He was an avid Iowa Hawkeyes football and basketball fan, and Chicago Cubs fan. He enjoyed gardening, fishing, and he especially enjoyed people.

Survivors include four sons, Dan (Joanne) Boyle of West Burlington, Dennis (Gerri) Boyle and Steve (Joanne) Boyle, both of Burlington, David (Linda) Boyle of Anchorage, AK; two daughters, Barbara (Larry) Reeb of San Antonio, TX, and Linda Boyle of Burlington; three brothers, Rusty Boyle of Burlington, Ray (Florence) Boyle of Bellingham, WA, and Tom (Juanita) Boyle of Burlington; one sister, Sr. Rose Ann Boyle S.S.N.D. of Burlington; nine grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and three sisters.

Visitation will be from 8:00 AM until 1:00 PM Tuesday, February 26 at the Hass-Thielen Funeral Home. There will be a 4:00 PM Rosary Service at SS. Mary and Patrick Catholic Church, West Burlington, where the family will receive friends following a 6:00 PM Christian Wake Service until 8:00 PM. The Mass of the Resurrection for Mr. Boyle will be 1:30 PM Wednesday, February 27, 2008, at SS. Mary and Patrick Catholic Church, West Burlington with Rev. Father David G. Steinle as the Celebrant. Music will be provided by the Des Moines County Resurrection Choir. Interment will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery. A memorial has been established for SS. Mary and Patrick Catholic Church, West Burlington.
