Howard Mellinger
Howard Raymond Mellinger, 84, of rural Sperry died at12:40 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 30, 2007, at Prairie Ridge Care and Rehab in Mediapolis.

Born March 12, 1923, in Kingston, he was the son of Crager and Freida Casper Mellinger. On May 22, 1946 he married Lucille I. Brown in Burlington. She died Feb. 25, 2002.

Mr. Mellinger served in the Army during World War II. He was a farmer retiring in 1988. He was a member of Farm Bureau and the Canasta Club for more than 50 years. He enjoyed gardening, fishing, playing cards and mowing the yard.

Survivors include one daughter, Cindy Davis of Middletown; two sons, Tom Mellinger of Mediapolis and Tim Mellinger of Sperry; and six grandchildren.

Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and two sisters.

Visitation will be from noon to 8 p.m. Friday in Lunning Chapel where the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m.

The funeral for Mr. Mellinger will be Saturday at 10:30 a.m. in Lunning Chapel with the Rev. Jeff Kodis officiating. Burial will be at Kossuth Cemetery.

A memorial has been established.
