Willard Brown
Willard Cecil Brown, 87, of Kingston, died Sunday, Jan. 6, 2008, at Great River Medical Center in West Burlington.

Born Jan. 20, 1920, in Des Moines County, he was the son of John W. and Ruby Viola Young Brown. On Aug. 8, 1943, he married Helen Louise Rickman in St. Louis.

Mr. Brown was a carpenter, a plumber and the owner of Willard Brown Construction Plumbing and Heating. He attended Pineywood Country School and served in the Army Air Force during World War II. He was a member of United Methodist Church in Kingston. He enjoyed woodworking, gardening, cooking, baking, traveling and hosting family reunions.

Survivors include his wife; one son, Stephen Brown of Whitewood, S.D.; three grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Dorothy Pierson of Kingston and Hazel Harl of Waukegan, Ill.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one grandchild, four brothers and two sisters.

Visitation will be from noon to 6 p.m. Wednesday at Hagele and Honts Funeral Home in Mediapolis. No formal family visitation is planned.

The funeral for Mr. Brown will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at United Methodist Church in Kingston with the Rev. Beth Briggs officiating. Burial with military rites will be in Kossuth Cemetery, Mediapolis.

Memorials have been established for United Methodist Church in Kingston, Mediapolis Community Ambulance Service and Mediapolis Public Library.
