Adair Spear
Adair Owen Spear, 85, of Ormond Beach, Fla., formerly of Burlington, died Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2008 at his home.

Born Aug. 17, 1922, in Stanwood, he was the son of Roland James and Hazel Byrum Spear. He married Mary Lou Juergens. They divorced. In 1975, he married Carol Ann Morris.

Mr. Spear formed S & S Management and developed real estate, built low income housing and refurbished historical homes in Florida and North Carolina. He was one of the original owners of Pzazz Motor Inn in Burlington. He owned Stanwood Lumber and Hawkeye Skelgas. He worked for Lockheed Aircraft in California. He graduated from Stanwood High School in 1940 and attended Drake University. He served in the Army Air Corp. He was a past member of AOPA, American Legion, Elks, the De Molay Consistory and was a 32nd degree Mason. He enjoyed flying, golf and fishing.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Craig Spear of Burlington, Scott Spear of Scottsdale; two daughters, Janet Holtman of Cedar Rapids and Ann Jeanette Maynard of New Orleans; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

The funeral for Mr. Spear was 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 5, 2008, at Hospice Care Center Chapel in Port Orange, Fla. Burial, at a date to be announced, will be in Bat Cave, N.C. at the Church of the Transfiguration.

Memorials have been established for The American Cancer Society, Hospice of Volusia/Flagler and Church of the Transfiguration Outreach Program.
