August Karsh, one of the older residents of the city, a good man, who was held in high esteem by many other citizens passes away yesterday afternoon at his home, No. 235 South Ninth street.

He was born in Grosselfingen, Germany, August 10, 1857, and came to Burlington from the fatherland some thirty years ago. He was a carpenter by trade and followed that calling many years, until failing health compelled him to lay aside his tools.

During the past four years, he has been conducting a grocery store at No. 235 South Ninth street. On October 20, 1880*, Mr. Karsch, was married to Josephine Messmer, who survives him. There are no children. Other surviving relatives are a brother and two sisters in the old country.

Mr. Karsch was a faithful member of St. John's Catholic church, and in that congregation as well as among the citizens in general he numbered many friends, for he had been an honest, industrious, right-living man.

The arrangements for the funeral will be announced later.
