Arthur Weiler
Arthur L. "Art" Weiler, 88, of Burlington, died at 1 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 6, 2008, at his home.

Born May 25, 1919, in Burlington, he was the son of Frank Arthur and Ruth C. Virgin Weiler. On Dec. 10, 1941, he married Iola Mae Inghram in Burlington. She died Dec. 22, 1994.

Mr. Weiler was treasurer of Midwest Federal Savings and Loan for nine years. He retired as credit manager of Champion Products in Burlington. In retirement, he worked for nine years as temporary revenue agent for the state of Iowa in the income tax division. In the early '70s he owned the Bed and Bath Store' at 513 Jefferson. He was a graduate of Burlington High School and the Burlington College of Commerce. He served in the Navy and received the Purple Heart.

Mr. Weiler was a member of First United Church of Christ and a member of SS. John and Paul Catholic Church. He was a member and secretary and past president of Burlington Noon Lions Club. He was the liason of Lion's eye bank cornea center at the University of Iowa. He was a member of the VFW Post 9162, D.A.V., American Legion Post 52 and the YMCA Keenagers. He was past president of the Des Moines County Heart Association, he served as director of the Des Moines County Cancer Society and spent 13 years as secretary of the Burlington executives club. He was a former member of the chamber of commerce, Elks, Eagles and former senior counselor of United Commercial Travelers Insurance Co.

Survivors include one son, Mark N. Weiler of Burlington; two daughters, Susan L. Weiler of Davenport and Wendy K. Evans of Burlington; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers.

There will be no visitation. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the time of the service. The body has been cremated.

The memorial service for Mr. Weiler will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at First United Church of Christ with The Rev. JudyAnn Morse officiating. Burial with military honors will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery.

Memorials have been established for SS. John and Paul Catholic Church, First United Church of Christ and the Burlington Noon Lions Club.
