Richard Springsteen

Richard Jack Springsteen, 78, of Burlington, died at 1:30 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 3, 2004, at Great River Medical Center in West Burlington.

Born Sept. 7, 1925, in Burlington, he was the son of Harry Lloyd and Bessie Esther Farrington Springsteen. On May 29, 1945, he married Sally Wirt in Burlington.

Mr. Springsteen drove a truck for H. B. Green for two years and Dohrn Transfer Co. for 30 years. He also worked at Pioneer Supply for ten years.

He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.

He was of the Protestant faith.

He was a member of the American Legion, AARP, and a previous member of the Burlington Gym. He enjoyed reading, gardening and was a dedicated St. Louis Cardinals fan.

Survivors include his wife; one daughter, Shirley Springsteen of Burlington; one son, Richard L. Springsteen of Burlington; two brothers, Larry Springsteen and Kenneth Springsteen, both of Burlington; five sisters, Virginia Coen, Helen Gantz, Beverly Dobson, and Lois Vera Everhart, all of Burlington, and Marjorie Reynolds of Mediapolis; four grandchildren; and one great-grandson.

He was preceded in death by his parents and four brothers.

The family will receive friends between 7 and 8:30 p.m. Monday at First United Methodist Church.

The funeral for Mr. Springsteen will be at 3 p.m. Tuesday at First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Frank Beaty officiating. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery.

Memorials have been established for the National Parkinson Foundation and the Burlington Humane Society.
