Regina A. "Jean" Schroeder, 83, of Danville, died Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2008, at Danville Care Center.

Born Sept. 4, 1924, in Burlington, she was the daughter of Ralph A. and Mary Dora Dietsch Rothlauf Sr. On July 16, 1945, she married Melvin William Schroeder in Quincy, Ill. He died May 19, 1982.

Mrs. Schroeder was a waitress, worked for seven years at Iowa Army Ammunition Plant in Middletown, and she helped her husband farm. She also helped her husband with their implement business, D and M Implement in Danville.

She attended schools in Burlington. She was a member of Danville Congregational United Church of Christ, the Women's Fellowship at her church, Burlington Moose Lodge and New London VFW Women's Auxiliary. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, baking Christmas cookies, going to the casino boat and her pets.

Survivors include one daughter, Connie Faidley of Kingston; one son, Robert Schroeder of Danville; one stepson, Donald Schroeder of Bella Vista, Ark.; eight grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Rita Hanna of Danville.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, her stepfather, and three brothers, one in infancy.

Visitation will be from noon to 8 p.m. today at Elliott Chapel in New London, where family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m.

The funeral for Mrs. Schroeder will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Danville Congregational United Church of Christ with the Rev. Preston VanLoon officiating. Burial will be in Jaggar Cemetery, Danville.

Memorials have been established for Danville Rescue Unit and Great River Hospice.
