Charles Johnson
Charles Edward Johnson, 82, of Mount Pleasant, died Friday, Nov. 29, 2002, at Henry County Health Center in Mount Pleasant.
Born May 16, 1920, in Sperry, he was the son of Fred and Augusta Wilson Johnson. On June 6, 1945, he married Ruth Mary Splonskowski in Klamath Falls, Ore.
Mr. Johnson farmed for many years in the White Oak area. He engaged in a lot of custom work for various farmers and served as a volunteer handyman in the White Oak community. He retired in 1990.
He grew up in Sperry, where he attended school. He was a World War II Navy veteran, serving six years. He was of the Protestant faith and served on the White Oak School Board.
Survivors include his wife; three sons, Edward Johnson of Burlington, Fred Johnson of West Burlington and Bob Johnson of Mount Pleasant; three daughters, Mary Wigger of Amana, Shirley Springer of Las Vegas and Karen Johnson of Nashville, Tenn.; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and four brothers.
Visitation will begin after noon Sunday at Olson-Powell Memorial Chapel in Mount Pleasant, where the family will receive friends from 4 to 6 p.m.
A graveside service for Mr. Johnson with full military rites will be at 11 a.m. Monday in Prairie Grove Cemetery near West Burlington.
Memorials have been established for the American Diabetes Association and the American Heart Association.
