Dane Morgan Sr.
Dane David Morgan Sr., 95, of Highlands, N.C., and Naples, Fla., died Dec. 10, 2007, at his home in Naples.

Mr. Morgan was an architect who worked for 30 years across the Midwest building schools and hospitals. He founded Dane D. Morgan and Associates in Burlington. His projects in Burlington include Burlington Post Office, Klein Hospital, James Madison Middle School, additions to Burlington Medical Center and remodeling of Burlington Bank & Trust and Farmers and Merchants Bank.

He studied at Carnegie Mellon, Illinois Institute of Technology, including Bauhaus staff under Mies van der Rohe.

Upon retirement, he studied with master watercolorists at the Instituto San Migual D'Allende in Mexico and with Robert Wood, James Cooper, Miles Batt, Millard Wells and Gerald Brommer. He was a member of the Florida, Miami and Florida Keys water color societies, and the Ocean Reef Club, Naples, Homestead and Highlands art leagues. His works won numerous prizes.

He loved the water and roamed the Mississippi River, Great Lakes, Atlantic Coast, Florida Keys and the Bahamas. He served as commodore at the Ocean Reef Yacht Club and with its Coast Guard Auxiliary.

Survivors include his wife, Georgia; three sons, Stephan Morgan of Santa Fe, N.M., Michael Morgan of Minneapolis and Dane Morgan Jr. of Brookline, Mass.; one stepson, Roy Cronacher; one stepdaughter, Patricia Cronacher-Travers; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Elizabeth "Lib" Smith.

A service for immediate family only will be in Naples, and a celebration of his life for family and friends will be in Highlands in August.

Memorials have been established for Highlands-Cashiers Hospice in Highlands and Avow Hospice in Naples.

Fuller Funeral Home in Naples is in charge of arrangements.
