Ruth Carole Eckrich, 72, of Phoenix, Ariz., formerly of Burlington, died Sunday, Oct. 21, 2007, at Boswell Hospital in Sun City, Ariz.

Born Aug. 19, 1935, in Allerton, she was the daughter of Cleve and Faye Earley Grimes. On Nov. 30, 1957, she married Cletus L. Eckrich in Iowa City.

Mrs. Eckrich and her husband lived in Burlington from 1973 to 1979, during which time she worked at Southeastern Community College. In 1979, they moved to Phoenix, where she worked at Shamrock Foods until retiring in 2003. In her retirement, she enjoyed reading, following the Arizona Diamondbacks, Phoenix Suns and NASCAR and animals, especially cats.

Survivors include her husband; five brothers, Robert Grimes of Haleyville, Ala., Don Grimes of West Burlington, Mike Grimes of Sun Valley, Nev., and Dave Grimes and Steve Grimes, both of New London; three sisters, Bert Weber and Linda Kempf, both of Phoenix, and Bonnie Worley of Burlington; and nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Heritage Funeral Home in Peoria, Ariz.

She will be cremated and services will be private for the family.

A memorial has been established for the humane society of the donor's choice.
