Richard West
Richard "Dick" Wyman West, 60, of Burlington, died Tuesday, Oct. 23, 2007, at his home.

Born June 11, 1947, in Burlington, he was the son of Russell Gilmore and Dorothy Margaruite McCuen West. On Oct. 29, 1972, he married Irene Giberson.

Mr. West was a funeral director at Prugh's Chapel for 17 years. He was a past deputy sheriff for Louisa County and worked at J.I. Case for four years.

He was a member of the Lions Club and past president and member of Indian Hills Golf Club. He liked to golf and enjoyed country western music. He served in the Air Force during the Vietnam War. He was of the Baptist faith.

Survivors include his wife, Irene, of Burlington; one son, Ricky West of Tacoma, Wash.; three daughters, Tracy McDowell of Burlington, Holly Whalen of Burlington and Damie West of Burlington; 11 grandchildren; three brothers, Russell "Buddy" West of Canton, Texas, Jack West of Mediapolis and Raymond "Skeeter" Davis of Winfield; two sisters, Sandra Jean Fugate of Independence, Mo., and Shelly Singleton of Wapello; several half brothers and half sisters; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Visitation will be from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday in Prugh's Chapel, where the family will receive friends.

The funeral for Mr. West will be at 10 a.m. Friday at First Christian Church, with the Rev. Tom Smith officiating. Interment will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery. Graveside military rites will be conducted by Burlington Area Veterans Honor Guard.

A memorial has been established in memory of Richard "Dick" West.
