Alice Anna Burkhart Field, 86, of New London, died Tuesday, Oct. 9, 2007, in Stanwood, Wash.

Born Sept. 20, 1921, in Osceola, she was the daughter of Harry Eugene Cook and Ruth Anna Sofia Nordquist. On May 4, 1940, she married Ivan Claude Burkhart in Burlington. He died in 1992. On Feb. 15, 1997, she married George Field. He died in 2004.

Mrs. Field was a housewife and bookkeeper for Burkhart and Company. Later she was a bookkeeper for her husband's business, Ivan's Service. She was a graduate of Mount Pleasant High School and a 1939 graduate of Iowa Wesleyan College earning a rural teaching certificate.

She was a member of United Methodist Church. She started Rainbow Girls in New London. She was active in Daughters of the American Revolution and the Democratic Party in Henry County. She enjoyed traveling abroad, making quilts, gardening, playing cards, reading, crossword puzzles, round-dancing and genealogy research.

Survivors include one son, Robert Ivan Burkhart of Stanwood, Wash.; one daughter, Patricia Ann "Tish" Eakle of Woodward; two grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one brother, Harry Eugene Cook II of Highlands Ranch, Colo., a half brother, John Monroe Cook of Carroll; numerous nieces and nephews; and numerous great-nieces and great-nephews.

Besides her husbands, she was preceded in death by her parents and one son.

There will be no visitation.

The funeral for Mrs. Fields will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at United Methodist Church in New London.

A memorial has been established for New London United Methodist Women's Circle.
