Gladys Savage

Gladys A. Savage, 93, of Burlington, died at 1 p.m. Wednesday, May 28, 2003, at Park View Care Center.

Born July 4, 1909, in Mediapolis, she was the daughter of William Edward and Emma Catherine Nyhart Remaly. On Dec. 12, 1927, she married George Savage in Burlington. He died Jan. 9, 1992.

Mrs. Savage worked in the mail room at National Research Bureau for 10 years. She also worked for the Iowa Army Ammunition Plant on Line 7 during the Korean War.

She was a member of Oak Street Baptist Church and the Church Mission Circle.

Survivors include three daughters, Carol Mace of Kansas City, Mo., Shirley Rump of Elkhart, Ind., and Roma Reaves of Burdine, Ky.; one son, Roe L. Savage of Burlington; 13 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; several great-great-grandchildren; and one brother, Lawrence Remaly of Gladstone, Ill.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, one granddaughter, three brothers and one sister.

Visitation will begin at noon today at Lunning Chapel, where the family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m.

The funeral for Mrs. Savage will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Lunning Chapel, with the Rev. Timothy Mace officiating. Burial will be in Old Stone Cemetery in Sperry.

Memorials for McGruff the Crime Dog and school children safety protection have been established.
