Ida Lucas

Ida May Lucas, 92, of Burlington Care Center, formerly of rural Burlington, died at 3:45 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 19, 2003, at the care center.

Born Sept. 16, 1910, in Burlington, she was the daughter of Arthur and Mary Brum Fehse. On June 25, 1929, she married Rudolph "Rudy" O. Lucas. He died June 14, 1966.

Mrs. Lucas was a homemaker. She also worked with her husband on their dairy farm.

She was a graduate of Burlington High School. She was a member of St. John's United Church of Christ, the Women's Guild, Rebecca's, Willing Workers and Hawkeye Ladies. She also was a Sunday school teacher and secretary-treasurer of St. John's Cemetery Association. She loved to bake bread and cookies, read and sew. She made afghans for friends and collected salt and pepper shakers.

Survivors include two sons, LaVerne Lucas and Lyle Lucas, both of Burlington; one daughter, Beverly Smith of Burlington; six grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Pearl of Burlington.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers and one sister.

Visitation will begin after 9 a.m. Sunday at Lunning Chapel, where the family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m.

The funeral for Mrs. Lucas will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Lunning Chapel, with Pastor Dan Buck officiating. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery in Burlington.

A memorial has been established for St. John's Cemetery.
