Vesta Marie Krieger, 93, of West Burlington, formerly of Mount Union, died Monday, Oct. 8, 2007, at her home.

Born Aug. 6, 1914, in Des Moines County, she was the daughter of Artemus and Ola Woodsmall Smith. On June 27, 1934, she married Laurel Krieger in Montezuma. He died Aug. 25, 2004.

Mrs. Krieger taught at Linwood School for two years and worked as a clerk at the Mount Union Post Office. She and her husband were part owners of Krieger Drug in Mount Union and owned and operated Krieger Antiques. She was the news correspondent for the Mount Union area for local papers.

She was a graduate of New London High School and took teacher preparatory classes at Iowa Wesleyan College. She was a member of Mount Union United Methodist Church, Methodist Women and the Birthday Club. She was a volunteer at the Iowa Welcome Center in Burlington. She enjoyed flea markets, antiques, books and glassware.

Survivors include three sons, Duane Krieger of Shorewood, Ill., Dennis Krieger of West Burlington and Miles Krieger of Burlington; 10 grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death her parents and one sister.

Visitation will be from noon to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Elliott Chapel in New London, where the family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m.

The funeral for Mrs. Krieger will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Mount Union Methodist Church, with the Rev. Sue Cabbage officiating. Burial will be at Trinity Cemetery, Mount Union.

Memorials have been established for the Mount Union Methodist Church and Alzheimers Treatment and Research Center.
