Edgar Lihs, 93, of Wapello died Friday, Aug. 24, 2007, at his home.

Born Nov. 7,1913, in Bristow, Neb., he was the son of August and Josephine Seekatz Lihs. On Aug. 28, 1938, he married Laura Mae Syphrit in Wapello.

Mr. Lihs retired from the Iowa Army Ammunition Plant in Middletown. He also had worked on a dairy farm, was a truck driver at Ainsworth and was a mechanic.

He attended Yankton High School in Yankton, S.D. He was a member of the United Methodist Church at Wapello, a 50-year member of the IOOF Lodge 19 at Wapello, a 50-year member of the Lodge 5 A.F. & A.M. at Wapello and a member of the Order of Eastern Star. He had served on the Wapello Volunteer Fire Department and the Wapello City Council. He also had been a city marshall for Wapello.

Survivors include his wife; one son, Larry Lihs of Wapello; one daughter, Loralea Arnold of Wapello; nine grandchildren; four great-granddaughters; one twin brother, Edwin Lihs of Springfield, S.D.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters and six brothers.

Visitation will be from noon to 6 p.m. Sunday at the Dudgeon-McCulley Funeral Home in Wapello, where the family will receive friends from 4 to 6 p.m. Masonic services will be at 4 p.m.

The funeral for Mr. Lihs will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Dudgeon-McCulley Funeral Home with the Rev. Sue-Ellen Sherman officiating. Burial will be in Wapello Cemetery.

A memorial fund has been established for Wapello Volunteer Fire Department and Wapello Rescue Unit.
