Mary Smith
Mary A. Smith, 83, of Mount Pleasant, died Friday, Sept. 7, 2007, at Arbor Court in Mount Pleasant.

Born March 8, 1924, in Des Moines County, she was the daughter of Herman A. and Geneva F. Kellar Prehm. On Sept. 18, 1943, she married Winfred Siems in Danville. He died July 25, 1988. On Dec. 28, 1991, she married Lester H. Smith.

Mrs. Smith worked at Danville State Savings Bank in Danville for 25 years, retiring in 1983. She was raised in the Middletown and Danville area. She graduated from Danville High School and attended business college in Burlington. She was a member of Danville Baptist Church and later became a member of the Calvary Baptist Church in Mount Pleasant. She taught Sunday school for many years and was involved with the ladies organizations of the church. She enjoyed needlepoint and was a longtime member of the Ten Club in Danville.

Survivors include one daughter, Judy Gerdes of Fort Madison; one son, Dick Siems of Murrieta, Calif.; one stepdaughter, Penny Barels of Columbus, Neb.; two stepsons, Dan Smith of New Freeport, Pa., and Dave Smith of Lesuer, Minn.; four grandchildren; five stepgrandchildren; four great-grandchildren; six step great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Dorothy Gerdner of Oakville, Lura Anderson of New London and Lucille McCabe of New London.

Besides her first husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and one sister.

Visitation will be noon to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Olson-Powell Memorial Chapel, where family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m.

The funeral for Mrs. Smith will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Calvary Baptist Church, with the Rev. Jeff Crawford officiating. Burial will be in Jaggar Cemetery.

A memorial has been established for Calvary Baptist Church, Shepherd Community and Evangelical Mission Ministries.
