Duane Allen Deen, 48, of Burlington, died Monday, Sept. 3, 2007, at his home.

Born Aug. 22, 1959, in Burlington, he was the son of Ronald William and Janice Ann Fullenkamp Deen Hagerla.

Mr. Deen was a 1978 graduate of Burlington High School and attended Southeastern Community College. He worked in maintenance for Ace Enterprise and Winegard Co. He also worked at Burlington Medical Center, Exide Corporation, was a private contractor and a production supervisor for Flint Cliffs Manufacturing.

Mr. Deen was a member of Eagles Club, where he served as vice president, and was a volunteer firefighter for West Burlington Fire Department. He was an avid parachute jumper and was a member of the U.S. Parachute Association since 1992. He trained instructors and was the only licensed parachute rigger within 100 miles. He enjoyed golf.

Survivors include two daughters, Jamey Deen and JoLynn Deen, both of Des Moines, stepfather, Mark Hagerla of West Burlington; three brothers, Gary Deen, Ronald Deen and Allan Deen, all of West Burlington; two sisters, Vickie Flake of Wapello and Joni Boling of West Burlington; one stepsister, Janette Mertz of Phoenix,; two stepbrothers, Steven Hagerla of Phoenix and John Hagerla of Kerrville, Texas; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Visitation will be from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at Lunning Chapel, where the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m.

The funeral for Mr. Deen will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Lunning Chapel, with the Rev. JudyAnn Morse officiating. A private burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery in rural West Burlington at a later date.

A memorial has been established.
