Delbert Callaway

Delbert "Cal" Harry Callaway, 90, of Acton, Calif., orginally from Pleasant Grove, died at 2:45 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 2, 2003, at his home.

Born May 8, 1913, in Washington township, he was the son of Suell Sullivan and Libby Caroline Orchard Callaway.

In January 1935, he married Louise Stamps. She died in August of 1994.

Mr. Callaway worked as a paint foreman for Paramount Studios in Los Angeles for 30 years.

He loved raising, breaking and training Arabian horses, which led to his competing in many equine events. He won several of those events, including showing and penning. He was a member of many organizations, including Mason and Acton Rangers. He was a World War II Army veteran.

Survivors include four grandchildren; two nieces; and four nephews.

Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by one son, his parents, one brother, and one sister.

Visitation will be from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at Lunning Chapel, where the family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m.

A graveside service for Mr. Callaway will be 1 p.m. Saturday in Shinar Cumberland Cemetery in Pleasant Grove, with the Rev. Ron Kelway officiating.

A memorial has been established for the Acton Arena.
