Robert McElhinney Baird , 88, of Morning Sun, died Wednesday, April 14, 1993, at Morning Sun Care Center.

Born Feb. 2, 1905, at rural Morning Sun, he was the son of Joseph and Ida Faris Baird. He married Anna McElhinney on May 28, 1941. She died Jan. 27, 1977. He later married Anita Davis Baird on Oct. 20, 1980. She died Sept. 20, 1987.

He was a graduate of Mediapolis High School and attended Iowa State University. He farmed in the Morning Sun area.

Mr. Baird was a life member of the Farm Bureau and a member of Sharon Reformed Presbyterian Church, where he has been a deacon, elder and was current elder emeritus.

Survivors include a daughter, Elaine Noss of Boulder, Colo.; five sons, Richard Baird of Kewanee, Ill., Joseph Baird of Morning Sun, Melville Baird, of Richmond Hill, Ga., John Baird of Uvalde, Texas, and David Baird of Freeport, Ill; three stepdaughters, Rebecca Smith of DeKalb, Ill., Mary Kay Baird of Largo, Fla., and Julie Biggerstaff of Ames; two stepsons, William Baird of Dunlap, Ill., and Alan Baird of Sperry; two brothers, Paul Baird of Morning Sun and Orville Baird of Michigan City, Ind.; 12 grandchildren; 11 stepgrandchildren; and several stepgreat-grandchildren.

Besides his wives, he was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, and five brothers.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at Hagele and Honts Funeral Home, Morning Sun.

The funeral for Mr. Baird will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Sharon Reformed Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Robert Schmidtburger officiating. Burial will be in Sharon Church Cemetery.
