William Callaway

William "Bill" Joseph Callaway, 85, of 126 E. Commercial, Hillsboro, formerly of Burlington, died at 9:17 a.m. Thursday, May 9, 1996, at University Hospitals in Iowa City.

Born Sept. 12, 1910, in Des Moines County, he was the son of Suell S. and Elizabeth"Libby" Caroline Orchard Callaway. On Oct. 21, 1933, he married Gladys "June" Stucker in Danville.

Mr. Callaway worked at the Iowa Army Ammunition Plant as a heavy equipment mechanic foreman retiring in 1975 after 34 years of service.

He was a member of Lions Club in Stockport; KAABA Shrine; Cascade Boat Club of Burlington and Malta Masonic Lodge of Burlington.

Survivors include his wife, two daughters, Juawona Weiss of Burlington and OKemm Dixon of Carman, Ill.; two sons, Michael Callaway of Anchorage, Alaska, and Patric Callaway of Stockport; 10 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; one brother, Delbert Callaway of Acton, Calif.; and one sister, Velda Shain of Deer Park, Wash.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one baby daughter.

Visitation will begin after 8 a.m. Monday in Lunning Chapel, where the family will receive friends from 7 ro 8:30 p.m. There will be a time of viewing at the Shinar-Cumberland Presbyterian Church of Pleasant Grove at about 11:45 a.m. prior ro burial.

The funeral for Mr. Callaway will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday in Lunning Chapel, with the Rev. Ron Presley officiating. Burial will be in Shinar Cemetery of Pleasant Grove.

A memorial has been established.
