Winona Vollmer

Winona Alice Vollmer, 88, of Burlington died at 5:21 a.m. Sunday, May 27, 2007, at Great River Medical Center in West Burlington.

Born March 30, 1919, in Burlington, she was the daughter of Chester L. and Lora C. Loper Walker. She married Arthur Andrew. He preceded her in death. On March 23, 1947, she married Donald Vollmer in Burlington.

She was a homemaker. She graduated from Burlington High School in 1937. She was a charter member of the Church of the Open Bible where she was a longtime organist and pianist. She was a member of Praise Singers, a group who sang at various nursing homes. She was a member of the SCC Booster Club. She was an avid SCC Blackhawk basketball fan, enjoyed flowers, especially roses, and fishing.

Survivors include her husband; one daughter, Donna Danielson of Burlington; one son, Kevin Vollmer of Burlington; four grandchildren; one brother, Delbert Walker of Burlington; and nieces and nephews.

Besides her first husband, she was preceded in death by her parents.

Visitation will begin at 8 a.m. Tuesday at Hass-Thielen Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m.

The funeral for Mrs. Vollmer will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Church of the Open Bible with the Rev. Kenneth Petersen officiating. Burial will be in Burlington Memorial Park Cemetery.

A memorial has been established for Church of the Open Bible.
