Marlan Staff

Marlan R. Staff, 66, of New London, died at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 17, 2002, at his home.

Born Feb. 5, 1935, in Burlington, he was the son of John A. and Erla Anna Salome. He married Carol P. Dietsch on Oct. 28, 1956, in Pleasant Grove.

Mr. Staff was a graduate of Fort Madison High School. He worked for General Electric for more than 30 years, retiring in 1997, and also was a lifetime dairy farmer on the family farm.

He attended Shinar Cumberland Presbyterian Church of Pleasant Grove. He loved to go to late model stock car races, county fairs and auctions and especially loved spending time with his grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Paula Mehaffy of New London and Sandra C. Brunner of Elmwood, Wis.; one son, Leon J. Staff of New London; six grandchildren; one sister, Shirley Sullivan of Burlington; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Visitation will begin at 8 a.m. today at Hass Funeral Home, where the family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m.

The funeral for Mr. Staff will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Shinar Cumberland Presbyterian Church, with Pastor Harry F. Hollingsworth officiating. Burial will be in Prairie Grove Cemetery in West Burlington.

A memorial has been established for the Des Moines County 4-H fair fund.
