Elizabeth Barnes

Elizabeth Barnes, 89, of Hamilton, Ill., died at 1:10 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 23, 2000, at Keokuk Area Hospital Skilled Care Unit in Keokuk.

Born Jan. 21, 1911, in Low Point, Ill., she was the daughter of Edgar Simeon and Myrtle Walker Mundell. On Oct. 15, 1938, she married Chester C. Barnes in Lacon, Ill.

Mrs. Barnes attended schools in Low Point, Eureka College and business school in Peoria, Ill. She was a member of Low Point Church.

She was an avid reader. She traveled extensively, visiting many states three times and Hawaii once. She volunteered as a Campfire Girls leader and Bluebird leader.

Survivors include her husband; one son, Michael H. Barnes of Fort Madison; two daughters, Janet L. Stoneking of Joliet, Ill., and Kathleen A. Sandage of Burlington; seven grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother and one grandson.

Visitation will begin after 3 p.m. Monday at Lamporte Funeral Home of Carthage, Ill., where the family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m.

The funeral for Mrs. Barnes will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Lamporte Funeral Home, with the Revs. Janet L. Stoneking and Chuck Tripp officiating. Burial will be in Harris Cemetery in Dallas City, Ill.

A memorial has been established for Keokuk Area Hospital Skilled Care Unit.
