Doyle Aubrey Christy

Doyle Aubrey Christy, 74, of Fort Madison, died at 8:45 a.m. Wednesday, April 11, 2007 at the Fort Madison Health Center.

He was born Jan. 11, 1933 at Appanoose County, Iowa to Daniel Aubrey and Icle Viannus Bennett Christy. He married Mary Lou Wells on Dec. 6, 1952 at Ottumwa. She survives.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army during the Korean War from 1953-55. He had been a resident of the area for 40 years. He worked for General Electric, West Burlington, from 1966-1996. After retirement he worked part-time for the City of West Burlington, Wunderlich Construction, and he also delivered vehicles for Shottenkirk's. He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church.

Besides his wife, he is survived by two sons, Robert (wife Kathy) Christy of Oceanside, Calif. and Derrell Christy of Springfield, Mo.; two daughters, Pauline (husband Anthony) Rainey and Nancy (husband Stephen) Sandbothe, all of Fort Madison; one brother, Wayne (wife Doris) Christy of Humiston; one sister-in-law, Doris Christy of Mystic; 11 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and one grandson.

Friends may call after 1 p.m. on Friday, April 13, 2007 at the Barr Memorial Chapel, where the family will meet with friends from 7 to 8 p.m. that evening. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, April 14 at Barr Memorial Chapel, with the Rev. Gordon Lundberg officiating. Burial will be at the Claypoole Cemetery.
