Sylvester Callaway

Sylvester Perry Callaway, 88, of the Wapello Nursing Home, formerly of West Burlington, died at 11:04 a.m. Friday, July 19, 1991, at the Muscatine General Hospital.

Born June 29, 1902, in Mediapolis, he was the son of Filmore and May Bolick Callaway. He had been married to Jessie May Lyons and to Gertrude Lee.

He worked 30 years at the Burlington Northern Railroad shops, retiring in 1945. Later, he was a self-employed building contractor.

Survivors include two daughter, Mrs. Alicia(Paul)Schaefer, Burlington, and Mrs. Marilyn(James) Petrocelli, Delmont, Pa.; one son, Caroll Callaway, Chicago; two sisters, Mrs. Flossie Osborne, Mediapolis, and Mrs. Katherine(Ray)Wonders, West Burlington; four grandchildren; and eight great grandchildren.

Friends may call after 9 a.m. Sunday at Lunning Chapel were the family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m.

The funeral for Mr. Callaway will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday at Lunning Chapel with the Rev. Jean Mueller officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.

A memorial ro Hope Haven has been established.
