Mrs. Mary Anna Beckman, aged 83 years, seventy-two of which she has made her home in Des Moines county, passed away Thursday morning, September 22, 1921, at the home of her son George, at Prairie Grove.

Mrs. Beckman was born in Germany on January 12, 1838 and came to the United States with her parents in 1849, locating in this county.

She was united in marriage with William Beckman in 1854. He passed away in 1897, since which time she has made her home with her children.

For years, Mrs. Beckman was a member of the Lutheran church in Franklin township.

Mrs. Beckman has seventy-six direct descendents living in the United States, many of them in this part of the state. Among these are six sons and one daughter, all living in Des Moines county. These are; Lewis, Henry, John, William, Wesley and George Beckman, and Mrs. Charles Wagner. She also leaves one brother, Henry Schroder of Lincoln, Nebr. and two sisters, Mrs. Charles Krueger of Burlington and Mrs. Kate Ball of Kansas City, Mo. Also thirty-four grandchildren and thirty-five great grandchildren.

Mrs. Beckman has been blind for about forty-five years and eight years ago fell and broke her hip, from which accident she never recovered sufficiently to be able to walk. This accident befell her on her seventy-fifth birthday anniversary, a few days after returning home from a visit at the home of her daughter, Mrs. R.D. Siefken, at this place.

The funeral was held last Saturday at the Old Stone Church.
