Lewis Lawrence

Lewis K. Lawrence, 96, of Cooperstown, N.D., formerly of Burlington, died Saturday, Feb. 24, 2007, at Cooperstown Medical Center Nursing Home.

Born Oct. 14, 1910, in Wahpeton, N.D., he was the son of Charles and Mary Padzernik Lawrence. On Oct. 11, 1939, he married Ruth Ramona Jensen in Wahpeton. On May 28, 1955, he married Verna Pitt Priva in Keokuk. She preceded him in death.

He grew up in Wahpeton and was educated at Dwight No. 1. He lived in and around Wahpeton, where he was a bee keeper. He enjoyed hunting and trapping. He moved to Burlington, where he became known as the honey man. He moved to Hannaford, N.D., before entering the Cooperstown Medical Center Nursing Home in July of 2000.

Survivors include two daughters, Deanna Holsteen of Woodland Park, Colo., and Pamela Gruman of Hannaford; one son, Paul Lawrence of Goodland, Kan.; one stepson, Gary Girtman of Burlington; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren and one half sister Rosie Samuelson of Wahpeton.

Besides his second wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, one son, one brother, one sister and three half brothers.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today in Cooperstown Funeral Chapel and one hour prior to services on Tuesday.

The funeral for Mr. Lawrence will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Cooperstown Funeral Chapel. Interment will be at 9 a.m., Thursday, March 8, 2007, in Harris Cemetery, Dallas City, Ill.
