Alfred Wasson

Alfred Woodrow Wasson, 87, of West Plains, Mo., formerly of Danville, died Friday, July 14, 2000, at Ozarks Medical Center in West Plains.

Born Dec. 22, 1912, in Roscoe, he was the son of Ralph and Clara Toft Wasson. On May 30, 1938, he married Edith Wilke in Burlington. She died Dec. 10, 1973. He also was married to Lola Lee for 10 years and to Naomi Hilbert for 10 years. They both preceded him in death. He later married Margaret Gwen Burke.

Mr. Wasson was the owner of a paint and wallpaper business.

He was a 1930 graduate of New London High School and a World War II Navy veteran, serving on the USS Mayrant in the South Pacific. He was a member of Danville Methodist Church. He loved his family, music and gardening.

Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Sandra Pope of Cary, Ill., and Carolyn Horn of Edna, Texas; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; one brother, Everett Wasson of New London; one sister, Dorothy Warth of New London; nieces and nephews.

Besides his wives, he was preceded in death by his parents and one nephew.

Visitation will begin at noon today at Elliott Chapel in New London, where the family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m.

The funeral for Mr. Wasson will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Elliott Chapel, with Pastor Matt Miller officiating. Burial will be in Jaggar Cemetery in Danville.

Memorials have been established for West Plains Senior Citizens Center and New London High School Music Department.
