Edwin Spencer

Edwin Carl Spencer, 79, of Burlington, formerly of Danville, died Saturday, May 10, 2003, at Genesis East Medical Center in Davenport.

Born Sept. 13, 1923, in Moravia, he was the son of Paul Samuel and Lelia Pearl Pence Spencer. On July 6, 1963, he married Darlene Stevens in Burlington.

Mr. Spencer worked for IAAP - Mason & Hangar for 37 years before retiring in 1988. He also worked for Sheaffer Pen and L&M Motors in Burlington.

He was a graduate of the Aberdeen, S. Dak. high school and Burlington Business College. He attended Harmony Bible Church. He was an army veteran of World War II, and served in the Pacific theater, Australia, and New Guinea. He enjoyed walking and traveling.

Survivors include his wife of Burlington; three sons, Steve Spencer of Danville, Tom Spencer and Mark Spencer, both of New London; three grandchildren; two brothers, John Spencer of Bettendorf and Paul Spencer of Moravia, and one sister-in-law, Frances Spencer of Cheyenne, Wyo.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother.

Visitation will begin after noon on Tuesday at Elliott Chapel, New London, where the family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.

The funeral for Mr. Spencer will be Wednesday at 1 p.m. at Elliott Chapel with the Rev. Leonard Schantz officiating. Burial will be in Jaggar Cemetery, Danville.

A memorial has been established.
