Mabel Christe

Mabel Celestine Christe, 91, of New London, formerly of Mount Union, died at 8:47 p.m. Friday, Jan. 16, 2004, at New London Nursing & Rehab.

Born Aug. 21, 1912, in New London, she was the daughter of Jasper Sheppard and Anna Abrisz Sheppard Moore. On Nov. 23, 1933, she married Willis T. Christe in New London. He died May 3, 1976.

Mrs. Christe attended Washington School in Burlington.

She worked at the New London Glove Factory, baby-sat and did housework for hire.

She attended the New London Christian Church. She was active in Salvation Army and Senior Citizens.

She and her husband traveled with the Toby and Susie Shows when they were first married. She enjoyed music, playing the piano, traveling and garage sales.

Survivors include four sons, George Christe of New London, Paul Christe of Mount Union, Ronald Christe of West Burlington, and Larry Christe of Beach, N.D.; one daughter, Mary Larsen of Danville; fourteen grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, two daughters, one grandson and two sisters.

Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. Tuesday at Elliott Chapel in New London, where the family will receive friends between 1 and 1:45 p.m. before proceeding to the cemetery.

Graveside services for Mrs. Christe will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday with the Rev. Allen Otto officiating. Burial will be in Jaggar Cemetery in Danville.

A memorial has been established for the New London Nursing & Rehab Activity Fund.
