Helen Coen

Helen Elizabeth Bailey Coen, 81, of 407 S. First Ave., Danville, died at 615 a.m. Monday, Aug. 19, 1996, at Burlington Medical Center.

Born Sept. 19, 1914, in Danville, she was the daughter of Charles Monroe and Alta Versa Chandler Bailey. She married Laurence Coen on June 12, 1935, in Danville.

Mrs. Coen was a 1933 graduate of Danville High School and attended Southeastern Community College in West Burlington.

She was of the Baptist faith and a Sunday school teacher, past president of Mid-America Baptist Women's Association, member of Chapter EV, PEO and a charter member of Entre Naus Club.

Survivors include her husband; two daughters, Barbara Walker of Sperry and Betty Hunsucker of Clovis, N.M.; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, one sister and one granddaughter.

Open visitation will be from noon to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Elliott Chapel in New London. There will be no family visitation.

The funeral for Mrs. Coen will be 2 p.m. Thursday at First Baptist Church in Danville, with pastor Harry Hollingsworth officiating. Burial will be in Jaggar Cemetery in Danville.

A memorial has been established for First Baptist Church in Danville.
