Kendal Stevens

Kendal Victor Stevens, 89, of Danville, died Saturday, Oct. 5, 1996, at Danville Care Center, Danville.

Born May 3, 1907, in Ewing, Mo., he was the son of Frank and Lou Fleming Stevens. On April 21, 1933, he married Marjorie Nuss in Galesburg, Ill. She died Sept. 25, 1993.

Mr. Stevens grew up on a farm and farmed north of Middletown. He worked as a salesman for Dr. Pepper and Sterzings Potato Chips for 30 years. He owned the Diner for several years and worked as a custodian at Danville State Bank and Danville Community Home for almost 20 years until his retirement. He served as vice president of Danville Development Co.

He was a member of Masonic Lodge of Wayland for 50 years and past member of Moose Lodge and United Commercial Travelers.

Survivors include three daughters, Darlene Spencer and Molly Lou Dockendorff, both of Danville, and Sandra Auritt of Las Vegas, Nev.; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters, two brothers and one grandson.

Visitation will begin at noon Wednesday at Elliott Chapel in New London, where the family will receive friends from 630 to 830 p.m.

The funeral for Mr. Stevens will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Elliott Chapel, with the Rev. Carl Engstrom officiating. Burial will be in Jaggar Cemetery, Danville.

A memorial has been established.
