DYERSVILLE, Iowa -- Mrs. Mary Kern Knipper, 81, of Dyersville, died after a long illness Tuesday, Dec. 7, 1993, at Oak Crest Manor.

Services will be at 10:30 am Friday at St. Francis Xavier Basilica, Dyersville, with burial in the church cemetery. Friends may call after 2 pm Thursday at Kramer Funeral Home, Dyersville, where there will be a parish scripture service at 8 pm.

She was born May 3, 1912, in Adrian, Minn., and was the foster daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Fangmann. She married Ed Kern on Jan. 9, 1933; he died Nov. 19, 1985. She married Andrew Knipper on Nov. 27, 1987; he died March 26, 1991.

She was a member of the Order of Martha and Dyersville Senior Citizens and Home Visitors.

Surviving are three daughters, Darlene Wedewer of New Vienna, Dorothy Ruppenkamp of Iowa City and Mrs. Linda Garbish of Minnetonka, Minn.; six sons, Dale Kern of Des Moines, Robert Kern of El Paso, Texas, Art Kern of Dyersville, Leon Kern of New Vienna, David Kern of Cedar Rapids, and Rick Kern of Minneapolis; 27 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren; a sister, Margaret Kubat of Lismore, Minn.; and a brother, Joe Steinkemper of Detroit.

She was also preceded in death by an infant daughter.
