DYERSVILLE, Iowa - Herbert M. Jasper, 91, of Dyersville, died Monday, May 6, 2013, at Oak Crest Manor, Dyersville.

Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, May 9, at St. Francis Xavier Basilica, with the Rev. Dennis Quint officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, May 8, at Kramer Funeral Home, Dyersville, where there will be a vigil service at 7:30 p.m.

He was born on April 13, 1922, on the home farm in Dyersville, the first child of Aloys and Clara (Heiring) Jasper. He attended a country school and worked on the family farm.

Herb married Helen Marie Weber on Feb. 14, 1942, in Dyersville. This union lasted 49 years until Helen preceded him in death in 1991. Together, they farmed east of Dyersville for many years and were blessed with three children. While farming, he also worked at Tauke Implement for 29 years.

Herb and Helen enjoyed their card clubs, and Herb also enjoyed woodworking, making many things in his craft shop. He was a lifetime member of St. Francis Xavier Basilica and an usher there for 40 years. He also was a member of the Dyersville Sportsman Club.

Surviving are his children, Judy (Lenny) Klein, of Belmont, Wis., Robert (Mary) Jasper, of Davenport, and Richard (Karla) Jasper, of Dyersville; eight grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; a sister, Norma (Jim) Wilhelm, of Dyersville; brothers, Mert (Lillian) Jasper, of Manchester, Gene Jasper, of California, and Tom (Joan) Jasper, of Dyersville; and sisters-in-law, Joyce Jasper, Betty Arthofer and Jeanette Engler.

He also was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Bill Jasper; and a sister-in-law, Roseanne Jasper.
