MRS LAURA FRENCH
Mrs. Laura French passed away at her home on Wayne street, Monday, March 1st, 1920, after an extended illness. Funeral services will be held at the home Thursday afternoon, with Rev. W. A. Montgomery in charge. Interment will be made in Oakland cemetery.Mrs. French was born in Vermont, July 25th, 1837. She was one of a family of eight children. The family came to Jones county in 1854. She was united in marriage to Jesse French on October 11th, 1860. They came to Delaware county in 1879, and located on a farm near Ryan. In 1902 they came to Manchester, to make their home. Mr. French passed away in this city in 1905. During her declining years, Mrs. French was tenderly cared for by her sister. Mrs. Marcia M. Davis, and the daughter, Mrs. Alice Lawton.
Mrs. French was the mother of seven children. One child died in infancy; one son, Elmer, died in California in 1906, and another son, Charles, passed away at Hawarden, Iowa, in 1915. She is survived by three daughters; Mrs. Alice Lawton and Mrs. O. W. Thomas, both of this city; Mrs. Effie L. Metteer, of Creighton, Nebraska; one son, Herbert, of Williamstown, North Carolina. She also leaves two brothers -- Alden C. Mudge, of Council Bluffs, and Loyal C. Mudge, of Burlington, and the sister Mrs. Marcia Davis of this city.
Mrs. French was a member of the Presbyterian church, and was a faithful attendant upon the services until the infirmities of years made this impossible. She was a good mother, kind neighbor and a true friend. Profound sympathy is felt for those who mourn her passing.
